The Indonesian music community is reeling from the shocking loss of Ricky Siahaan, the beloved guitarist of the heavy metal band Seringai, who tragically passed away on Saturday night at the age of 48.
The musician suffered a heart attack shortly after electrifying the crowd at the Gekiko Fest during their "Wolves of Asia Tour" in Tokyo. His sudden demise has left fans and fellow musicians alike in a state of disbelief.
The news first surfaced on social media, with Japanese DJ Freya Fox mistakenly reporting that the band’s drummer had died during the concert. She quickly rectified her statement, revealing that it was, in fact, Siahaan who had succumbed to a heart attack. A close friend of Fox’s reportedly confirmed the heartbreaking news to local authorities.
In his last Instagram post, shared just hours before his passing, Ricky expressed his exhilaration from the previous night’s performance, writing, "Japan, we have lift off. Show number 4, Merry Go Round Shinjuku was an effing blast!" Four days prior, he had been sharing vibrant moments from Seringai's whirlwind shows across Taiwan, where the band had captivated audiences in Taichung, Taipei, and Kaohsiung.
As the news of Ricky’s death spread, Seringai took to Instagram to honor him: "Our guitarist, our friend, our brother, Ricky, has suddenly passed after completing his set at the final stop of our tour in Tokyo, Japan. Ricky left this world doing what he loved: Playing loud music with everything he had. We’ve lost one of the most vital parts of this entity."
The band is currently making arrangements to repatriate Siahaan’s body back to Indonesia, with manager Wendi Putranto detailing that they are navigating Japan’s legal and administrative procedures for the process.
The music world has lost an extraordinary talent and vibrant spirit. Siahaan’s passion for heavy metal and his unforgettable performances will be remembered by fans and fellow musicians for years to come.
