High-Stakes Midnight Chase in Johor: Singaporean Woman and Malaysian Man Arrested for Massive Drug Bust

In a jaw-dropping late-night police operation, a dramatic car chase unfolded in Johor Bahru, leading to the arrest of a Singaporean woman and a Malaysian man for alleged drug offenses. The authorities seized a staggering amount of narcotics valued at approximately RM54,831 (S$16,600).

The incident transpired just after midnight on December 31, when the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department of Johor Bahru South was carrying out surveillance operations in the area. Police chief Commissioner M. Kumar revealed that officers spotted a suspicious grey compact car on Jalan Tampoi, Taman Seri Bahagia.

As the police approached the vehicle for inspection, the driver accelerated abruptly, prompting a high-speed pursuit that resulted in two officers sustaining injuries after being struck by the fleeing car. Despite law enforcement's attempts to halt the vehicle, the suspects fled onto the Pasir Gudang Highway.

The thrilling chase led officers through the Iskandar Coastal Highway and the Second Link Expressway. Notably, the suspects rammed through the toll barrier at the Senai Utara Toll Plaza, escaping further pursuit on the North-South Expressway until they were finally apprehended in Simpang Renggam, Kluang with the assistance of police patrol units from Kulai and Kluang.

The suspects were identified as a 38-year-old Singaporean woman behind the wheel and a 49-year-old Malaysian man as her passenger. Upon searching the vehicle, police uncovered multiple packages containing substances believed to be dangerous drugs.

Further investigations yielded two additional raids in Johor Bahru, resulting in even more drugs being confiscated. The haul included an alarming assortment of narcotics: 697.4g of cannabis valued at RM7,172, 62g of methamphetamine worth RM6,820, 4.1g of ecstasy powder priced at RM684.70, 3.8g of heroin valued at RM95, and 14g of nitrazepam pills valued at RM60.

Urine tests conducted on both suspects returned positive results for methamphetamine, confirming their association with the illicit drug trade. Moreover, a background check revealed the Malaysian man had a criminal history, including several drug-related offenses and an outstanding warrant.

Currently, both suspects are under a six-day remand order, which is effective until January 5, 2025. They face serious charges under various sections of the Dangerous Drugs Act, the Penal Code, the Road Transport Act, and the Immigration Act, including drug trafficking, reckless driving, and obstructing public officials.

In light of this incident, Commissioner Kumar reaffirmed Johor police's dedication to curbing crime and ensuring community safety.
