SINGAPORE - Prime Minister Lawrence Wong hailed the Home Team officers as the backbone of the nation’s safety and security, emphasizing that Singaporeans have a robust trust in these dedicated individuals.

The Home Team, which includes full-time national servicemen and National Service men actively serving in the police force and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), plays a vital role in safeguarding lives and managing threats to national security. During a recent visit to the Punggol Neighbourhood Police Centre and Punggol Fire Station, PM Wong expressed his gratitude for their relentless commitment.

"Just like the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), our Home Team officers work tirelessly and often behind the scenes to tackle various threats, both seen and unseen," PM Wong stated. In an era characterized by increasing global tensions, he highlighted the importance of vigilance in maintaining national safety, attributing it to the unwavering diligence of security forces.

As the nature of threats evolves, including terrorism, cybercrime, and scams, PM Wong stressed the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing capabilities to address these challenges. He noted advancements in technology during his visit, which enables the Home Team to train effectively and respond in real-time operations.

"This visit was an opportunity to deepen my understanding of the Home Team's initiatives and to convey my heartfelt appreciation for their courage, service, and commitment," he remarked. PM Wong reinforced that the trust between Singaporeans and the Home Team is crucial for its effectiveness, and public surveys consistently indicate a high trust level in these security forces.

Reflecting on their humanitarian contributions, PM Wong mentioned recent deployments to assist in relief efforts following the devastating earthquake in Myanmar. A contingent of 80 SCDF personnel, including NS men and dedicated officers who sacrificed personal celebrations, was sent to assist in rescue operations. "It’s vital to recognize that our commitment extends beyond our own borders; we’re ready to help our neighbors in distress," he added.

Accompanied by Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam and other officials, PM Wong was briefed on cutting-edge technologies being utilized, such as a handheld drone jamming system designed to counteract rogue drones, and a state-of-the-art extended reality simulator for training SCDF officers in vehicular extractions during emergencies.

During the visit, PM Wong expressed his confidence in the officers' focus on their mission and committed to continued government support in providing them with the necessary resources to perform their duties effectively. Singapore’s ongoing investment in maintaining safety and security is a shared responsibility, poised to evolve with the changing landscape of threats.

The resilience and dedication of the Home Team officers, he concluded, is an invaluable asset to the nation, ensuring that Singapore remains a safe place for all its citizens.
