A Solo Campaign in Uncharted Territory

As Singapore gears up for the pivotal May 3 elections, independent candidate Darryl Lo is making waves in Radin Mas SMC, despite lacking the traditional backing of a political party.

Lo, 28, has opted for a grassroots approach, shunning physical rallies in favor of distributing 15,000 flyers and posting 200 banners with a dedicated team of 12 volunteers. He asserts that the absence of a credible opposition in his constituency is his main motivation to run solo.

Aiming for Change Against Established Opponents

In a competitive race, Lo faces incumbent PAP MP Melvin Yong and People’s Alliance for Reform’s Kumar Appavoo. Yong, who previously secured an impressive 74.01% of the votes in the last election, is a seasoned politician with considerable support.

Lo has voiced skepticism regarding Kumar's commitment, noting an impression that the challenger is not taking his candidacy seriously. Kumar's history in politics has been rocky, including an embarrassing incident during the last election when he failed to participate in a crucial political broadcast.
