Liam Delap: The Next Big Thing for England?

In a recent statement, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed his strong belief that Ipswich Town's budding striker, Liam Delap, has the potential to play a significant role for the England national team in the coming years.

Maresca, who coached Delap during his time at Manchester City's youth academy, has been nothing short of impressed with the 21-year-old's performances this season. As Chelsea prepares for an upcoming clash with Ipswich at Portman Road, Maresca shared, “Liam is a fantastic player, especially at his age. We spent one year together during which he scored 22 or even 24 goals. He is a very good striker.”

The Chelsea boss went on to emphasize Delap's work ethic, noting, “In England, there are many players of his caliber, but he stands out. He works hard off the ball and has a knack for understanding the game, enabling him to score crucial goals. Given his age, I truly believe he can become an important asset for England.”

Although the young talent has yet to break into the senior squad, his pedigree is impressive. Delap has represented England at every level from under-16s to under-21s, and he celebrated victory with the U19 team in the European Championship in 2022. This proficient goal-scorer joined Ipswich Town from Manchester City in July, following a successful youth career highlighted by his remarkable feat of netting 35 goals in just 36 matches for their U21 side.

With his trajectory pointing upwards and a growing list of accomplishments, many are eager to see if Liam Delap will be the next star to don the England jersey and make waves on the international stage. Could he be the key to England's future success? Only time will tell!
