In a significant turn of events, the court hearing for Singaporean property mogul Ong Beng Seng has been postponed as he seeks additional medical documentation.

This delay follows a pre-trial conference held on March 26, where his legal team expressed the need for more detailed reports regarding his health condition due to his ongoing battle with bone marrow cancer.

Ong, who was expected to enter a guilty plea on April 2, now faces a new pre-trial date set for April 25.

His spokesperson conveyed, “Mr. Ong has requested more time to procure comprehensive medical reports from his doctors. This will allow all pertinent information to be presented thoroughly to the prosecution and the court.”

The prominent businessman, renowned for bringing Formula 1 racing to Singapore in 2008, is embroiled in legal troubles linked to former transport minister S Iswaran.

Iswaran, who pleaded guilty to charges involving corruption and obstruction of justice, faces scrutiny over his dealings, and Ong is accused of complicity in these actions.

The charges against Ong stem from an alleged all-expenses-paid trip to Doha in December 2022, valued at approximately S$20,850 (around USD 15,500).

Another serious charge suggests that Ong aided in obstructing justice when he allegedly facilitated Iswaran's travel arrangements just as investigations were commencing in May 2023, including a payment of S$5,700 for a business class ticket back to Singapore.
