SINGAPORE: In an exciting move aimed at enhancing tourism and investment, Indonesia has announced that Permanent Residents (PRs) in Singapore can now enjoy visa-free travel to the stunning Bintan, Batam, and Karimun Islands. This initiative is expected to boost regional economic growth and provide Singapore PRs with an easy getaway option.

Indonesia's Director-General of Immigration, Silmy Karim, disclosed that under this new policy, Singapore PR holders can stay in these beautiful Indonesian destinations for up to four days without the need for a visa. "Offering BVK (free visit visas) to Singapore PRs will simplify their getaway plans, whether it’s for a quick weekend trip or a brief escape to enjoy the natural beauty, delectable culinary experiences, or shopping," Mr. Silmy affirmed in a recent statement.

Access points for this visa-free travel include key ports in the Riau region, such as the Nongsa Terminal Bahari, Marina Teluk Senimba, Batam Centre, Citra Tri Tunas, Sekupang, Sri Bintan Pura, Bandar Bentan Telani Lagoi, and Tanjung Balai Karimun. These locations provide easy connections for visitors looking to explore the rich offerings of Bintan, Batam, and Karimun.

Mr. Silmy further emphasized the immense tourism potential of the Riau Islands, which are home to significant exclusive economic zones like the Nongsa Special Economic Zone in Batam and Bintan Resorts. These areas are designed to foster innovation in digital businesses, the creative economy, and tourism, presenting lucrative opportunities for both travel enthusiasts and investors.

While this initiative aims to stimulate tourism and investment, it is important to note that the authorities will still implement a careful selection process to ensure the security and order of the region. However, specific details about this selection process were not provided.

Importantly, this new travel policy distinguishes itself from the existing visa-free entry agreements for other ASEAN countries, focusing specifically on Singapore PRs and creating a more efficient travel route for them.

Currently, Singapore is home to approximately 545,000 PRs, individuals with permanent residence status, who can now explore these enticing vacation spots with ease.

In a broader context, Indonesia has been actively working to attract foreign investment and talent through various initiatives, such as offering “second home” and golden visas for wealthy individuals and foreign investors. This latest development builds on a series of measures introduced during the pandemic, including the successful travel bubble established between Bintan, Batam, and Singapore in 2022.

Earlier this year, President Joko Widodo revealed a list of 13 countries and regions granted visa-free entry to Indonesia, showcasing the nation's growing focus on fostering international tourism.

So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and get ready for a sun-soaked adventure in Indonesia's paradise islands! Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to unwind in nature’s lap with a sprinkle of shopping and exquisite local cuisines!
