Manchester United is exploring options for a new left wing-back, focusing on a couple of expensive candidates while also considering a more cost-effective alternative. Recent reports suggest that the club is proactive in its transfer strategy as they prepare for significant changes in the squad in 2025, following the nod for a large-scale rebuild.

Legendary figure Gary Neville recently emphasized the urgency of addressing the wing-back positions at Manchester United, a sentiment echoed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. According to Romano, a new left wing-back is a priority, and the club is actively pursuing options this month.

In a development shared on social media platform X, Romano noted that Manchester United has added Danish international Patrick Dorgu to their list of potential signings. The 20-year-old player currently represents Serie A club Lecce and has gained international recognition with four caps since his debut in 2024. Lecce reportedly values Dorgu at around €40 million (£33 million), which, while still a significant investment, is more affordable compared to other targets on United's radar.

Romano also highlighted that two other wing-backs, Milos Kerkez and Nuno Mendes, are preferred but would come at a higher price. Kerkez, currently at Bournemouth, is estimated to be valued around £40 million, and with interest from clubs like Liverpool, the figure could escalate to £50 million. His recent association with agent Fali Ramadani suggests a move is imminent, especially as Bournemouth prepares to secure his replacement.

On the other hand, Nuno Mendes, who plays for PSG, remains a more mysterious situation. The cost to bring him to Old Trafford is expected to surpass what Lecce is asking for Dorgu. Recent reports indicate that negotiations between Mendes and PSG regarding a contract extension have stalled, leading PSG to be open to selling him, especially given that he has only 18 months left on his contract. Mendes, previously managed by Ruben Amorim during his time at Sporting CP, could be eager for a chance to reunite with his former coach at United.

In a further twist, it was revealed that Manchester United has reached out to Mendes' representatives, although they are keeping their options open with lingering interest from multiple elite clubs vying for the player. Meanwhile, PSG is reportedly still hopeful of reviving talks.

In addition to the hunt for a left wing-back, Manchester United is also considering an opportunity to bolster their strike force. The Athletic's David Ornstein confirmed that United is one of three clubs in the running to sign PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani on loan this month, alongside Tottenham and Juventus. Previously, United showed interest in both Kolo Muani and Rasmus Hojlund in the summer transfer window.

The excitement doesn't stop there. Manager Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff are thrilled with the progress of 19-year-old Leny Yoro, who recently joined the club. Yoro is already being viewed as one of the few "untouchables" within the squad as he continues to impress after recovering from a lengthy injury.

With these developments, Manchester United is clearly determined to reshape its squad effectively, setting the stage for an intriguing transfer window ahead. Keep an eye on the Red Devils as they navigate these crucial decisions in their pursuit of returning to a position of strength in both domestic and European competitions!
