Protecting Our Lifesavers: A Call to Action

MedPark Hospital is on a mission to safeguard the hearts of those who dedicate their lives to saving others. In a bold move unveiled this Tuesday in Bangkok's Khlong Toei district, the hospital has launched the second phase of its crucial initiative targeting cardiac arrhythmia, a condition that can lead to devastating health issues like coronary artery disease and cardiac arrest.

Why This Initiative Matters

Cardiac arrhythmia can manifest through alarming symptoms such as palpitations and dizziness, warning signs that can escalate without proper care. Recognizing this threat, MedPark Hospital's initiative aims to prioritize the well-being of doctors—individuals who often neglect their health amidst the demands of their profession.

Professor Dr. Sinn Anuras, the director and CEO of MedPark, highlighted the urgent need for this campaign, stating that many healthcare professionals are overwhelmed with stress and long hours, leaving little room for self-care. 'We want to protect doctors from cardiac arrhythmia and ensure they remain in good health,' he shared, hoping to inspire similar initiatives across the nation.

A Stark Warning for Thai Physicians

Dr. Pongpat Patanavanich, managing director of MedPark, stressed the critical role of doctors in our healthcare system, especially underscored during the pandemic. Alarmingly, an estimated 100,000 physicians in Thailand are susceptible to cardiac arrhythmia. Over the past five years, between 300 to 400 have tragically succumbed to heart-related conditions.

'To save one doctor is to save 10,000 lives,' he proclaimed, reinforcing the importance of medical screenings. MedPark Hospital is equipped with specialized electrophysiologists dedicated to addressing these heart concerns.

Success from Last Year Inspires Continuing Efforts

The 'Save Doctors’ Hearts' initiative first kicked off in 2022, attracting 1,236 participants. Shockingly, 30% of those screened were diagnosed with heart-related abnormalities, with some now requiring advanced treatments such as coronary angiograms and percutaneous coronary interventions.

Free Screenings: A Lifeline for Doctors

In this current phase, the initiative opens its doors to doctors experiencing symptoms of cardiac distress, offering free screenings. Under the guidance of Dr. Krit Jongnarangsin, an esteemed electrophysiologist from the University of Michigan, participating doctors will receive essential treatment advice.

For those needing further care, MedPark has established partnerships with hospitals covered by their health insurance, ensuring a comprehensive and supportive approach to heart health.
