Microsoft has finally tackled a frustrating issue that caused Remote Desktop sessions to freeze on Windows Server 2025 and Windows 11 24H2 devices! This notorious glitch has left countless users hanging, but relief is here.
The freezing problem for Windows 11 users was first addressed with the KB5052093 optional update on February 25. For those operating on the impacted Windows Server systems, a comprehensive fix was delivered with the KB5055523 Patch Tuesday cumulative update on April 8.
What Was the Problem?
Users experienced frozen Remote Desktop sessions shortly after connecting, rendering mouse and keyboard input useless. To regain control, disconnection and reconnection became a frustrating necessity.
In light of these issues, Microsoft strongly advises users to install the latest updates, as they come packed with vital improvements and resolutions, including this critical fix.
Additional Fixes and Rollbacks!
In a proactive move, Microsoft also utilized a feature called Known Issue Rollback (KIR) to reverse problematic non-security updates affecting Remote Desktop and RDS connections since January 2025. This was essential for resolving frustrating RDP disconnections that lasted a maddening 65 seconds when connecting from Windows 11 24H2 PCs to Windows Server 2016 systems.
More Updates on the Horizon!
Additionally, a major bug related to blue screen errors and installation hitches on Windows Server 2025 has been fixed since the KB5046617 cumulative update released in November. This crucial fix addresses systems with more than 256 logical processors, preventing unexpected crashes.
And there's more: users may still face challenges logging into their accounts with Windows Hello after installing the April 2025 security updates, highlighting that Microsoft is constantly working to improve user experience.
With these updates rolling out, Microsoft proves once again that they are attentive to user feedback, ensuring smoother and more reliable Remote Desktop experiences for everyone. Don’t wait! Update your systems now for enhanced performance and fewer headaches.
