In a dramatic move, Nintendo is seeking a subpoena from a California court that could compel Discord to reveal the identity of the elusive individual behind last year's notorious Pokemon leak, infamously dubbed the 'FreakLeak' or 'TeraLeak.'
Sources suggest that the leaked materials may have stemmed from a significant data breach disclosed by Game Freak last October. This breach reportedly revealed the names of over 2,600 current and former employees, raising serious concerns about company security.
Interestingly, the bulk of the leaked information surfaced online on October 12, just a day after Game Freak’s announcement, which was dated back to October 10. That statement, however, only mentioned employee information and fell short of addressing the impact of the breach on confidential company developments.
The leaked files were a treasure trove of secrets, unveiling unannounced projects and exclusive content. Among the most shocking revelations was the existence of 'Pokemon Champions,' a battle-centric game that hadn't been officially disclosed until February. Additionally, the leak included details about the now-confirmed 'Pokemon Legends: Z-A' and even hinted at the next generation of Pokemon games.
Nintendo hasn't yet taken legal action against the hacker or leak source, but this subpoena hints at a determined effort to identify the culprit. Known for their aggressive legal stance on piracy and infringement cases, if Nintendo gets the green light for the subpoena, it seems inevitable that they will pursue formal action against whoever is responsible.
