SINGAPORE: As the countdown to the General Election 2025 heats up, the People’s Action Party (PAP) is doubling down on its commitment to the residents of Tanjong Pagar, with Education Minister Chan Chun Sing emphasizing their dedication over concerns about who they will be contesting against.

During a recent event at Telok Blangah Mall, alongside his constituency colleague Rachel Ong, Chan declared, “Our primary focus is always resident-centric. Whether or not other parties contest, our mission remains the same.” He stressed that their efforts are not limited to the election period, asserting that they engage with the community every day.

A Strong Team in Tanjong Pagar

PAP’s lineup for Tanjong Pagar includes notables such as Alvin Tan, Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Joan Pereira, and newcomer Foo Cexiang. They will face competition from the People's Alliance for Reform (PAR), which features a diverse team including banker Prabu Ramachandran and activist Han Hui Hui.

On the importance of teamwork, Chan reflected on the legacy of former MP Indranee Rajah, who held her position for 24 years before transitioning to lead the PAP's Pasir Ris-Changi GRC. He reassured residents that the same team-oriented approach that guided their earlier political journeys would support Foo Cexiang in filling Indranee's shoes.

Connecting with the Community

Chan and Ong led a walkabout in Telok Blangah, engaging directly with residents. Ong, who noted her familiarity with the area from her previous term in West Coast GRC, expressed excitement about continuing to deepen connections with the community.

She said, 'Anyone is welcome to contest, and I welcome that. My focus is on understanding our community and meeting their needs every day.' This commitment to service underscores their approach, deviating from short-term campaign strategies to building lasting relationships.

Consistency Over Campaigning

When asked about their campaign strategy, Chan reiterated that it’s not limited to a mere “nine or ten-day plan.” Instead, he stated that true dedication to constituents is shown through daily, sustained engagement, which reveals the sincerity of a candidate’s commitment.

As the election nears, PAP’s focus on teamwork, consistent outreach, and strong community ties positions them as a formidable presence in Tanjong Pagar, ready to face their rivals head-on while staying committed to the needs of the people.
