In a delightful nod to nostalgia, Nintendo has enlisted the ever-charismatic Paul Rudd to promote the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. The new commercial takes a playful jab at a famous 90s ad Rudd starred in for the Super Nintendo, blending humor with a touch of heart.

Fast forward 34 years, and Rudd still brings the same energy, sporting his signature coat, beaded necklace, and iconic hairstyle. He bursts into a living room ready to connect with friends—comedians Joe Lo Truglio and Jordan Carlos, along with a child affectionately calling him "Uncle Paul." The group dives into a game of Mario Kart World, showcasing the Switch 2's exciting new GameChat feature. The ad honors its predecessor by incorporating iconic elements like a fog machine and a fan, creating an over-the-top atmosphere reminiscent of the original commercial.

As the ad comes to a close, Rudd delivers a modern twist on the classic tagline, saying, "Now we’re playing together," solidifying the theme of connection and fun. It’s delightfully cheesy, but that’s part of its charm, adding a layer of nostalgia to the launch of the new gaming console.

In an exclusive interview with IGN, Rudd shared his thoughts on reprising his role more than three decades later. He reminisced about possibly wearing his own beaded necklace in the original ad and revealed that he couldn’t resist playing Mario Kart World during breaks on set. Sadly, he joked that they didn't allow him to take a Nintendo Switch 2 home.

In other exciting news, Nintendo has announced that Switch 2 preorders will reopen on April 24 at a price point of $450.
