SINGAPORE —

In an exciting development for the healthcare sector, two esteemed veterans in the field have been appointed to key leadership roles at the upcoming Eastern General Hospital (EGH), set to open its doors in Bedok North between 2029 and 2030. Effective January 1, 2025, Associate Professor Gan Wee Hoe will take on the role of pro-tem chief executive, while Associate Professor Augustine Tee will serve as pro-tem medical board chairman, as announced by SingHealth on November 27.

Prof Gan, who is already the chief executive of SingHealth Community Hospitals, brings a wealth of experience to his new position. As an occupational physician, he has been instrumental in shaping care delivery strategies within SingHealth’s community hospitals. He previously held the role of chief medical informatics officer at Singapore General Hospital, where he played a crucial role in implementing an organization-wide electronic medical records system during his tenure with the Singapore Armed Forces.

In his capacity as pro-tem chief executive of EGH, Prof Gan will spearhead the strategic direction and operational management of the hospital, ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare services to the community.

Meanwhile, Prof Tee, who has spent six years as chairman of the medicine division at Changi General Hospital overseeing 12 medical specialty departments, will transition from his role to guide the medical board at EGH. A seasoned leader, he has also served as chief of both the respiratory and critical care medicine and broader medicine departments.

Prof Tee's expertise will be further utilized as he leads the Hospital Clinical Services Planning Committee for Eastern General Hospital. He has already been influential in designing the hospital's clinical care and service models, and he will continue to develop professional services and enhance clinical specialties.
