SINGAPORE:

The Progress Singapore Party (PSP) has taken a bold stance in its newly released 78-page election manifesto, calling for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to be rolled back to 7% from its current rate of 9%. This substantial proposal aims to alleviate the financial burden on citizens grappling with the rising cost of living. Additionally, the manifesto emphasizes the need for public asset declarations from Members of Parliament (MPs), alongside a series of sweeping reforms aimed at enhancing governmental accountability and transparency.

Titled “Progress for All”, this comprehensive document outlines 61 distinct policy proposals, many of which echo concerns previously raised by the party's Non-Constituency Members of Parliament, Leong Mun Wai and Hazel Poa, during parliamentary sessions and in their 2020 manifesto. PSP chairman and founder Tan Cheng Bock encapsulated the importance of the upcoming election by stating, “Your vote is critical in this election,” and emphasized that it will determine whether Singaporeans have responsible opposition MPs to hold the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) accountable.

In a press conference, Mr. Leong asserted that the 61 proposals were meticulously researched and articulated alternative solutions for pressing national issues, asserting that it is unjust for the government to claim that the opposition lacks viable alternatives.
