SINGAPORE: In a rapidly evolving global landscape, the Progress Singapore Party (PSP) is stepping up to advocate for a more balanced parliament that truly reflects the voices of its citizens.

During a recent political broadcast, PSP founder and chairman Tan Cheng Bock declared that his party is primed to be a loyal opposition. "We need more opposition that not only critiques but also proposes constructive alternatives. We will speak up for you and assist the government in navigating Singapore’s path forward," he stated.

Tan pointed out that previous Non-Constituency Members of Parliament (NCMPs) from PSP actively upheld these values in the last parliament, and they are ready to take on elected roles in the upcoming 15th Parliament.

Joining Tan in this mission are secretary-general Leong Mun Wai and first vice-chairperson Hazel Poa, both of whom demonstrated exceptional performance as NCMPs in the last election.

In his impactful four-minute address, Dr. Tan highlighted pressing issues facing Singapore, such as the rapid transformation of the job market due to artificial intelligence and the gig economy. He expressed concern about the crumbling post-war economic order that has supported Singapore’s growth and emphasized that the nation will face challenges as global protectionism rises.

"Do we want a parliament dominated by a handful of elites that succumbs to groupthink?" he challenging questioned. "Singapore needs a diverse and balanced parliament to tackle these looming challenges effectively."

To support their campaign, the Infocomm Media Development Authority has allocated airtime for political parties to convey their messages. PSP was given a five-minute slot to broadcast their vision, underscoring their commitment to speaking up fearlessly for the citizens.

Tan candidly acknowledged that with 13 candidates running, it might not be feasible for PSP to form the government outright, but he stressed, "If we make it to parliament, rest assured we will influence policy and advocate for changes we believe will improve lives." Their motto, "Progress For All," epitomizes their mission to ensure that societal advancement benefits everyone and not just a privileged few.

The party's manifesto comprises 61 proposals targeting critical issues such as living costs, healthcare, housing, and employment.

Tan affirmed that his team is not just ready to challenge the status quo but possesses the qualifications and passion to serve Singaporeans. He praised the bravery of his candidates for their commitment to public service, reiterating, "These individuals are loyal Singaporeans devoted to our nation's betterment."

PSP is strategically contesting in several constituencies, including a team at West Coast-Jurong West GRC and additional candidates spread across other regions. The upcoming General Election is their platform to voice the concerns and aspirations of the people of Singapore.
