The Shifu Food Court, nestled in the Bras Basah Complex at 231 Bain Street, has made a sensational comeback with a stunning $350,000 renovation, and business has been booming since its reopening! Officially back in action on October 9, the 24-hour air-conditioned food haven has quickly become a local favorite, as reported by Shin Min Daily News.

This beloved food court, which has been operating since 2001, now boasts 14 diverse stalls with an array of culinary delights—from comforting economic rice, savory porridge, and satisfying noodles to delectable Japanese and Thai dishes. Notable vendors include Ah Gong KKM, launched by NUS student Fang Yu, whose heartfelt connection to her ke kou mian noodle dish has captured the attention of many patrons. Fang shared, "Growing up, my parents worked long hours, and my grandfather was the one who cooked for me. When I asked him to taste my noodles before opening, he cried."

Strategically located near esteemed institutions like Singapore Management University (SMU) and the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Nafa), Shifu Food Court is attracting a diverse crowd, including students and working professionals. Excitingly, students from SMU, Nafa, and Lasalle College of the Arts enjoy a generous 20% discount on meals, complemented by complimentary Wi-Fi—a perfect blend for study breaks and group hangouts.

The freshly remodeled space features retro-inspired design elements adorned with LED lighting, accommodating up to 430 guests in both indoor and outdoor settings. The owner of Yuki Congee, originally from Taman Jurong Market, reports that their signature boat congee and batang fish congee have already won over numerous diners, with some even returning for lunch multiple days in a row!

The culinary offerings don't stop there—co-owner Aili of the Thai stall highlights her partner's secret Hat Yai fried chicken recipe, which has also been a major hit. "Our business is primarily fueled by repeat customers, with many returning for three consecutive days," said the 39-year-old.

Feedback from visitors has been overwhelmingly positive. One delighted customer traveled from the West side just to sample the offerings, expressing satisfaction with the new "brighter and more comfortable" ambiance of the food court.

However, not everyone shares the same sentiment. Some patrons have noted that while the dining experience is enhanced, prices at several stalls could be steep, lacking budget-friendly options, with only one stall boasting a Michelin Bib Gourmand distinction.
