Singapore United Party Unveils Ambitious Manifesto

SINGAPORE: In a groundbreaking reveal, the Singapore United Party (SUP) launched its manifesto this week, aiming to tackle soaring housing prices, enhance CPF withdrawal flexibility, and provide free healthcare for all ages. Titled "Moving Forward, Together," this document outlines a vision for a fairer and more inclusive Singapore.

Key Manifesto Proposals: A New Era of Affordability

SUP’s manifesto emphasizes three vital areas: safeguarding welfare, creating an inclusive society, and pursuing collective aspirations. Party secretary-general Andy Zhu highlighted a vibrant vision where every citizen thrives, no matter their background, calling for essential changes to promote equality.

Chairman Ridhuan Chandran stressed the necessity for the government to better engage with the community, expressing concerns that citizens often feel sidelined in policy-making processes.

Transforming CPF Access and Housing Prices

One of the most striking proposals includes a cap on resale HDB flat prices, which are currently soaring to exorbitant values, with some transactions exceeding a million dollars. The SUP argues that these inflated prices should not be left to market forces alone.

Additionally, the party urges a reconsideration of CPF policies, advocating for greater freedom in accessing hard-earned retirement funds. They emphasize that savvy individuals should not be penalized for the mismanagement of others, calling for enhanced autonomy over personal finances.

Furthermore, the manifesto proposes the provision of free healthcare for seniors aged 67 and above, ensuring a stable safety net for our aging population.

Revolutionizing Education for the Future

In a bold educational overhaul, SUP suggests making primary education free for all local children, aiming to alleviate financial burdens on low-income families. Currently, while school fees for Singaporeans are waived, miscellaneous fees still pose a challenge.

Zhu clarified that the party plans to eliminate fees for uniforms and textbooks, creating a level playing field for all students. They also stressed the need for universities and polytechnics to reserve more spots for locals, ensuring that every Singaporean has an opportunity to succeed.

Moreover, children under 14 should receive free medical care, lightening the load on families and ultimately benefiting Singapore’s long-term healthcare system.
