SBS Launches Singapore's Groundbreaking Express Feeder Service to Slash Commute Times for Tampines Residents!

In an exciting development for Tampines residents, SBS Transit has announced the launch of Singapore's first express feeder service, officially named Service 298X, set to commence on December 9. This innovative service aims to expedite connections to the bustling Tampines town center and its transport hub, significantly cutting down on commuting times for those living in the Tampines North and Tampines West areas.

Service 298X, which will operate exclusively during peak hours on weekdays, will serve 15 select bus stops along the established route of its parent service, Service 298. It's essential to note that this service will not run on public holidays, but regular feeder service fares will apply. Travelers can conveniently catch this new express service starting and concluding at the Tampines North Bus Interchange.

This initiative is part of the Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme (BCEP), which was launched by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in July 2023. The BCEP has been allocated a whopping S$900 million over the next decade, focusing on acquiring new buses, enhancing infrastructure, and rolling out additional bus services across Singapore.

The BCEP aims to adapt bus services to evolving travel patterns while improving connectivity to newer estates. The introduction of express feeders, like Service 298X, is particularly aimed at easing access for residents living far from major transit nodes and promoting faster travel times.

SBS Transit has revealed that the express feeder will follow a more direct route, making fewer stops compared to traditional feeder services. It will only halt at key points such as Bus Stops 76559, 76551, 76149, and 76141 along Tampines Avenue 4 and Tampines Central 1.

Local residents are already expressing their enthusiasm about the express service. A Reddit user praised the initiative, highlighting that the regular Service 298 often took a long detour through older estates, making it quite inconvenient for commuters. They noted, "The express feeder is a game-changer, providing a direct line to the interchange, especially since buses are often packed by the second or third stop during rush hour."

With the introduction of Service 298X, many in the community are hopeful for an improved commuting experience, eagerly anticipating the faster travel times and streamlined connections that this service promises.

Stay tuned as we continue to follow the developments of the Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme and other exciting transport initiatives across Singapore!
