In a bizarre turn of events, a woman was apprehended after allegedly swiping a pair of sunglasses valued at around $270 from a shop in Changi Airport’s transit area. The brazen act occurred on October 14, during which the shop’s inventory revealed the costly eyewear was missing during a routine stock take.

Authorities were alerted to the situation by October 17. Thanks to the diligent work of the Airport Police Division, officers utilized CCTV footage to pinpoint the identity of the 43-year-old suspect. The investigation uncovered that the woman had cleverly removed the price tag from the sunglasses she wanted and swapped it with one from her own pair before nonchalantly making her exit without making a purchase.

However, her getaway was short-lived, as she flew out of Singapore shortly after committing the act. Fast forward two months: the suspect returned to Singapore on December 14, when she was promptly arrested by vigilant police officers who had been on the lookout for her.

Now, facing serious charges, the woman is set to appear in court on December 18 for theft in a dwelling, a crime that could land her behind bars for up to seven years and come with hefty fines.
