In a tragic development, authorities have confirmed that the decomposed body discovered in Banting belongs to 15-year-old Yap Xin Yuan, who had been missing since December 19. A DNA test conducted on the remains matched those of her mother, providing a heartbreaking conclusion to the ongoing investigation.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan announced the identification following post-mortem examinations, stating, "The three suspects detained, including the victim’s boyfriend, have been remanded until Sunday. However, we anticipate seeking an extension to their custody period."

The case, initially reported as a missing person incident after Yap did not return from a lion dance training session at Batu 11 basketball court in Cheras, has now been reclassified as a murder investigation. Police are actively pursuing leads to determine the motive behind this grievous act.

Currently, three suspects are in custody, including Yap's boyfriend—a 16-year-old—and two others aged 20 and 51. Their involvement raises serious questions about the circumstances leading to Yap's disappearance.
