Dramatic Drug Bust in Singapore

In a dramatic operation, law enforcement grilled four Singaporeans—three men and one woman—who are now facing serious charges after authorities seized drugs worth over $1 million in a Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) crackdown on January 4.

The CNB informed the public on January 6 that the seized drugs possess the potential to sustain the addiction of approximately 4,590 drug users for an entire week. This alarming statistic underscores the significant impact of the trafficking operation on the community.

Arrests and Discoveries

On that fateful afternoon, agents cornered two suspects, aged 27 and 25, at a carpark near Cassia Crescent. Tensions escalated when a third suspect, a 25-year-old man, bolted at the sight of the arrests, prompting a brief foot chase before authorities apprehended him. During the chase, a weapon was confiscated from him, intended for further investigation by the police.

An alarming amount of narcotics was discovered in the possession of these individuals. The older suspect was found with approximately 1,855g of heroin, 1,032g of Ice, 98 Ecstasy tablets, and 300 Erimin-5 tablets. Meanwhile, his accomplice was carrying an additional 136g of Ice and 21g of cannabis.

Further Investigations

The sting operation didn’t end there; CNB officers later stormed a nearby residential unit believed to serve as a stash house for the main suspect. Inside, more drugs were uncovered—including 73g of Ice, 21g of heroin, 20 Erimin-5 tablets, and a small quantity of Ecstasy tablets. It was within this unit that the authorities arrested a 25-year-old woman, suspected to be a drug user.

Legal Consequences and Statements

The CNB is not taking these offenses lightly. It emphasizes that individuals who traffic drugs—even on behalf of others—face severe penalties. Specifically, those caught with over 15g of pure heroin, 250g of Ice, or 500g of cannabis are subject to the mandatory death penalty under Singapore's strict drug laws.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Aaron Tang, the head of intelligence at CNB, expressed deep concern over the societal repercussions of drug trafficking, stating, "Drug traffickers show blatant disregard for the thousands of lives their lethal substances will obliterate if allowed on the streets."
