In a surprising turn of events, Singaporean television host Dasmond Koh experienced the adrenaline rush of an earthquake while on a business trip in Bangkok. The 53-year-old co-founder of NoonTalk Media was in Thailand for a sportswear brand's launch party alongside a group of his talented artistes, including actress Angel Lin and actors Kevin Tan and Yang Yan.

On March 28, a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake shook central Myanmar, sending tremors across the region and impacting neighboring Thailand. Koh and his team had just settled down for lunch at Gaysorn Village when the unexpected aftershocks began to rattle the city.

In a candid post shared on March 29, after the team returned home safely to Singapore, Koh expressed gratitude towards the sportswear brand Asics for their support during the ordeal. He included a group photo of the NoonTalk team and shared his reflective thoughts: “What an experience it has been – never did we expect to feel the tremors of an earthquake while in the city.”

Tragically, the earthquake resulted in devastating loss, claiming the lives of at least 1,600 people in Myanmar and at least 17 in Thailand. Koh took a moment to extend his sympathies: “To those who’ve faced setbacks or loss because of this incident – our hearts are with you. Please take all the time you need to heal. May strength and comfort find their way to you.

During lunch, Koh described feeling dizzy and initially brushed it off as fatigue. However, it wasn’t long before the rest of his team began to sense that something was off. Koh recounted, "I thought it was just me, but soon after, everyone was asking, ‘Hey, do you all feel some shaking?’” When he noticed the hanging lights swaying, it became undeniable that the restaurant was experiencing a substantial earthquake.

Despite some patrons fleeing, Koh's team remained inside for several minutes until a South Korean artiste suggested seeking safety outside. They waited in a secure open-air area for around 45 minutes, during which they learned just how severe the shaking was as people commented on the visible swaying of the building.

Once they felt it was safe, they moved to a nearby hotel where staff were distributing bottles of water. With public transport down and shops shuttered, the team undertook a cautious walk back to their original hotel, reflecting on the bizarre and frightening experience.

This was not the first emergency Koh faced while abroad. He previously found himself caught in a significant crisis in late 2024 in Seoul when South Korea's President declared urgent martial law unexpectedly.

As the team reflects on their experience, Koh’s observations serve as a poignant reminder of life's unpredictability, urging everyone to cherish every moment: "Nothing in life should ever be taken for granted."
