SINGAPORE: A recent two-part documentary by CNA, titled "World’s Busiest Land Crossing: Inside Singapore Woodlands Checkpoint," has brought to light a contentious incident involving a man who recorded an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer at the Woodlands checkpoint.

This footage, including body cam clips, was released on November 14 and highlights alarming behavior that led to serious legal repercussions.

The Incident

The story began when 37-year-old Wong Jeo Wah, using the alias "Sky Sg" on Facebook, crossed the checkpoint.

As he navigated through the area, he began taking photos and videos of an ICA officer, launching into an outburst filled with vulgarities.

Wong later defended his actions, claiming he was merely speaking with his wife.

However, his rationale did little to justify his decision to upload these unauthorized images online, leading to a litany of charges against him.

Legal Repercussions

Reports indicate that the ICA discovered Wong's posts, which not only displayed the officer's face but also included the officer's first name.

In response to this breach, Wong faced charges under the Protection from Harassment Act (POHA) for his abusive communication directed at the officer, as well as the Infrastructure Protection Act.

By October, Wong’s legal troubles had compounded, leading to additional charges for providing false information to a police officer.

His case is scheduled for mention on November 20.

The Aftermath

The documentary not only captured Wong's reckless behavior but also the subsequent chaos at the checkpoint.

After being informed of his impending arrest, Wong attempted to use his phone to make arrangements for his vehicle.

While normally prohibited from using phones in the checkpoint area, he was granted an exception in this instance.

Yet, even after completing his arrangements, Wong continued to send messages and grew increasingly agitated when instructed to cease the activity.

His outbursts included shouting the ICA officer’s name until additional officers intervened to deescalate the situation.
