A recent two-part documentary by CNA has exposed a dramatic incident at the Woodlands checkpoint involving a man who took unauthorized photos and videos of an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer. The documentary, titled "World’s Busiest Land Crossing: Inside Singapore Woodlands Checkpoint," premiered on November 14 and has sparked intense discussions across social media platforms.

The shocking body cam footage showcases the man, identified as 37-year-old Wong Jeo Wah, entering the checkpoint and capturing images of the officer while allegedly hurling vulgarities. Although Wong insisted that he was just speaking to his wife, the incident escalated quickly as he disregarded the checkpoint protocols.

ICA officials discovered that Wong had uploaded these unauthorized visuals online, leading to charges against him under the Protection from Harassment Act (POHA). In a twist, Wong was caught using his phone to arrange for a friend to collect his vehicle, which is typically prohibited in secure areas. Even after completing this task, he continued to use his phone, becoming increasingly agitated when officers instructed him to stop. Witnesses noted that he even shouted the officer's name before calming down when other ICA officers intervened.

Wong previously faced a charge under the Infrastructure Protection Act, but after the added charges in October, he now faces two new accusations: one for using abusive language towards the ICA officer, and another for providing false information to a police officer. This case has garnered considerable attention, raising questions about the boundaries of filming public officials as well as respect for law enforcement authority.

As the date for Wong's next court mention approaches on November 20, many are left wondering how this case may influence policies related to unauthorized filming of public officers in Singapore, especially in high-security zones.

Stay tuned as this story continues to unfold, and don’t miss the gripping footage featured in the CNA documentary!
