SINGAPORE – A startling incident occurred on January 14 when a 40-year-old lorry driver was involved in a crash that saw his vehicle collide with a tree and mount the kerb of a Housing Board block lobby in Tampines, alarmingly close to a pre-school facility.
Eyewitnesses reported that the lorry initially struck a small tree before subsequently crashing into the pillars of a sheltered walkway at Block 854 Tampines Street 82. A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed concern over the close proximity to the children at the nearby PCF Sparkletots pre-school, acknowledging that things could have ended much worse.
According to the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force, they received an emergency call about the accident at approximately 9:50 am. Preliminary investigations suggested that the lorry may have self-skidded, leading to the unfortunate incident.
Upon impact, the blue lorry suffered significant damage, including a cracked windscreen and a dented front. Fortunately, despite the terrifying circumstances, no injuries were reported.
Residents are now calling for increased safety measures in the area to prevent similar incidents. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash, raising ongoing concerns about road safety near busy residential and educational areas.
With the increasing number of vehicles on the road, the community is urging for further assessments of traffic conditions to ensure the safety of pedestrians, especially children. As investigations unfold, stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
