Gil Gun's Harrowing Experience in the Entertainment Industry

In a candid interview on the YouTube channel 'Namu Miki Detective Agency,' singer Gil Gun recently shared a harrowing experience that highlights the darker side of the entertainment industry.

Unwanted Advances and Agency Changes

During the episode aired on September 29, Gil Gun recounted how her career, which began in 2004, was marred by unwanted advances and expectations. “As I released albums, my agencies kept changing. The reason was because, at the time, the company I was with... there were a lot of such things going on with singers,” she admitted, revealing the tough reality faced by many aspiring artists. With a heavy heart, she recalled the moment she told her agency, "I’ll sign with you as long as I don’t have to provide sexual favors."

A Painful Memory of Exploitation

Comedian Park Kwang Soo, who joined her in the discussion, inquired about Gil Gun's awareness of others subjected to similar pressures. This brought forth a painful memory for Gil Gun, “I was invited to a bar... I felt uncomfortable and told my senior, 'I’ll leave now.' After I left, I received a call where they explained what they wanted me to do,” she revealed, adding that the experience left her in tears. “When I heard it for the first time, I cried. I was scared. I think I was just too young at the time, and I had never heard anything like that before,” she shared, firmly standing her ground by stating, “I go to church, I don’t do things like that.”

Industry Reaction and Growing Voices

The comedian reacted with outrage, stating, “That senior is also a bad person. I’m sure she was getting something in return by trying to connect you.” This sentiment is echoed across a growing number of voices within the entertainment industry, as more individuals come forward to share their experiences of manipulation and exploitation.

Mistreatment and Exploitative Contracts

Previously, Gil Gun also exposed the mistreatment she endured at the hands of her former agency on another YouTube platform, 'Weekly Trot.' She disclosed the exploitative conditions of her contract, where she was forced to perform in a karaoke bar late at night under the guise of meeting potential investors only to return home exhausted and repeatedly called upon. Disturbingly, when she confronted her CEO about the exhausting demands, he retorted, "I’m not asking you for sexual favors, am I?"
