SINGAPORE: The countdown to Singapore's 60th anniversary of independence ramps up as the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) announces a vibrant array of islandwide activities slated to commence in December, celebrating the New Year and the remarkable milestone of SG60.
Set to unfold in 2025, Singapore will honor six decades of sovereignty with the ONE Countdown, the inaugural event in an exciting lineup of festivities throughout the year. The city will be adorned with spectacular displays and engaging events designed to foster community spirit and national pride.
Expect a dazzling mix of carnivals, live performances, and breathtaking firework shows at prime locations across the city, including Marina Bay, the Singapore Sports Hub, Sentosa, Orchard Road, and Clarke Quay. Furthermore, 17 heartland sites will also host festivities, bringing the celebrations directly to neighborhoods, making it more convenient for residents to partake in the exuberance.
This year, Mediacorp will elevate the excitement by hosting its annual countdown show at the Singapore Sports Hub, showcasing talented local artists along with interactive activities like face painting. Attendees of the "Let’s Celebrate 2025" show can anticipate an eye-catching 15-minute fireworks display—the longest of its kind among all countdown events in Singapore, as confirmed by the MCCY.
Residents in heartland areas can look forward to unique celebrations including stage performances, drone shows, and vibrant carnivals designed for the whole family. The selected 17 heartland locations span diverse neighborhoods such as Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Bishan, and Woodlands, ensuring everyone can join in the festivities close to home.
In a commendable move towards inclusivity, the celebrations will also extend to migrant workers, who will have access to special countdown activities at six recreation centers—Kranji, Penjuru, Sembawang, Soon Lee, Terusan, and Tuas South—alongside events in over ten dormitory sites. These will include live performances, carnival games, and exciting lucky draw prizes.
To ease transportation for participants, public transport operators are coordinating an extension of services in anticipation of increased festive activities. Further information regarding transport schedules will be released shortly.
A Year of Commemoration: SG60
The SG60 celebrations will not be limited to New Year festivities but will evolve into a year-long series of events themed “Building Our Singapore Together.” This initiative aims to not only celebrate Singapore's past achievements but also encourage reflection on shared values, national identity, and collective commitment to build a brighter future.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has emphasized that SG60 should serve as a moment of introspection and unity, urging all Singaporeans to reaffirm their dedication to the nation’s progress. This represents not just a celebration but an opportunity to foster a deeper connection with the nation's heritage and each other.
As the date draws closer, excitement builds across the nation. Singaporeans and visitors alike can prepare for a phenomenal year ahead, brimming with creativity, culture, and community spirit—all heralding a dynamic future for the Lion City.
