SINGAPORE: The Singaporean government has expressed profound concern regarding the recent resurgence of violence in Gaza, which has tragically led to a significant increase in civilian casualties. On March 19, 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) declared the violence as alarming and reiterated the necessity of safeguarding civilians under international humanitarian law. They emphasized that "all hostages should be released immediately," reflecting the urgent humanitarian needs of the situation.

The renewed hostilities escalated dramatically following massive airstrikes conducted by Israel that resulted in the deaths of over 400 individuals, which included a considerable number of women and children, as reported by local health authorities.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that these military actions were "only the beginning," indicating an aggressive stance moving forward, declaring that any future negotiations with Hamas would occur "only under fire." His comments have escalated fears regarding an ongoing cycle of violence in the region.
