In a thrilling development from the European Space Agency, the smart ALEK system, part of the innovative reusable spacecraft Space Rider, has successfully completed its rigorous mechanical tests. This achievement marks a significant step forward in the journey of this cutting-edge spacecraft.

What is Space Rider?

To ensure its success in orbit, Space Rider utilizes the Vega-C rocket's fourth stage, known as the AVUM+ (Attitude Vernier Upper Module). A key player in this assembly is the ALEK (AVUM Life Extension Kit), developed by Beyond Gravity for Avio, which supplies essential power, services, and boasts solar panel wings for its operational needs.

Intense Testing Regimen!

Over two months, ALEK underwent a series of grueling mechanical tests at ESA's state-of-the-art facility. It was subjected to simulated vibrations typical of a rocket launch, where it wobbled side-to-side and up-and-down under the scrutiny of over 120 sensors, all closely monitored by engineers.

Sound and Shock Waves!

The next challenge was a noise test in the largest acoustic chamber in Europe, designed to mimic the thunderous roar of a real rocket launch. ALEK held firm as it faced relentless sound waves and rumbles, showcasing its resilience.

Final Shock Test!

ALEK's endurance was pushed to the limit with a shock test, designed to evaluate the module's integrity during separation from the Vega-C rocket. Positioned on a model of the rocket's fourth stage, it simulated the intense shocks experienced during ascent, ensuring that the structure could withstand the rigors of space.

Ready for Lift-Off!

With all tests completed successfully, ALEK is now primed and qualified for launch! Looking ahead, additional tests are set for Space Rider, including avionics software simulations in Italy.
