SpaceX has successfully launched 27 of its Starlink internet satellites into low Earth orbit from California in a spectacular evening event on April 3. The Falcon 9 rocket carrying the satellites lifted off from Vandenberg Space Force Base at precisely 9:02 p.m. EDT (6:02 p.m. local California time, or 0102 GMT on April 4).
Just over eight minutes post-launch, the mission achieved a significant milestone when the rocket's first stage made a flawless landing on the SpaceX drone ship “Of Course I Still Love You,” stationed in the Pacific Ocean. This flight marked the fifth successful launch and landing for this particular booster, showcasing SpaceX's increasing reliability and efficiency in reusable rocket technology.
If everything proceeds according to plan, the upper stage of the Falcon 9 will deploy the Starlink satellites approximately one hour after liftoff, adding to the massive constellation designed to provide high-speed internet access around the globe—especially in underserved areas.
This launch follows a busy week for SpaceX, which also pulled off a doubleheader on March 31. On that day, they successfully launched another batch of Starlink satellites alongside the Fram2 private astronaut mission, which made history as the first-ever human spaceflight to orbit over Earth's poles.
As of now, SpaceX has executed an impressive total of 38 Falcon 9 missions in 2025 alone, with about two-thirds dedicated to expanding the Starlink megaconstellation. This rapid expansion signals SpaceX’s ambition to dominate the satellite internet market and reshape global connectivity, potentially impacting millions worldwide.
With continuous launches and expansions, SpaceX's Starlink initiative is on track to significantly alter the landscape of internet access, bringing reliable high-speed connections to regions previously left in the digital dark. Stay tuned as we watch this technological revolution unfold!
