Have you ever been frustrated asking Google Gemini to play your favorite tunes on Spotify, only to be met with an unimpressive, “I can’t do that yet?” Well, rejoice, music lovers! Google has just unveiled a game-changing Gemini extension for Spotify, elevating the music experience for Android users.
This exciting update arrives as Gemini gains popularity as a smarter and more conversational alternative to the traditional Google Assistant. Google is clearly on a mission to enhance Gemini’s capabilities, helping it catch up to, and perhaps eventually surpass, its predecessor. For years, Google Assistant has been the go-to tool for Android users looking to control their devices and access media services like Spotify seamlessly.
With the new Gemini extension, Android users can now simply ask Gemini to search for their preferred songs, albums, playlists, or even genres on Spotify! Imagine requesting a specific song – granted, you’ll need a Spotify Premium subscription for that feature. Remember, linking your Spotify account to your Google account is essential to get started.
Currently, this remarkable feature is exclusive to Android devices, with functionality limited to the Gemini and Spotify apps. Unfortunately, iPhone users will have to wait, as the extension is not yet available for iOS, the Gemini web app, or Google Messages.
Getting up and running is a breeze! First, ensure both apps are installed on your device. Next, navigate to the Gemini app’s settings and enable "Gemini Apps Activity." Check the Extensions menu for the Spotify option and toggle it on. From there, unleash your inner DJ by asking Gemini to play your favorite tracks or discover playlists. A few examples include saying, “Play ‘As It Was’ by Harry Styles,” or “Find a workout playlist on Spotify.” However, do note that Gemini cannot create playlists at this time, and it must be set to the English language.
While this feature is currently rolling out, if you don’t see the Spotify extension immediately, don’t fret! It should be available soon for all Android users with Spotify Premium, giving you a simplified and smarter way to explore your music.
Interestingly, Google has already introduced similar features for its own services, such as Google Flights, Hotels, Maps, Workspace, YouTube, and YouTube Music. Spotify stands out as only the second third-party app to receive the Gemini treatment, following WhatsApp, which allows users to send messages or make calls through simple Gemini prompts. To add to the excitement, Google has also been rolling out a Utilities extension that helps users manage tasks like opening apps, accessing websites, or adjusting Android settings with ease.
As Google continues to enhance Gemini's compatibility with third-party apps, the future looks bright! Stay tuned to see how these improvements evolve and enhance your music experience!
