In an unexpected weather occurrence on the afternoon of November 22, flash floods were reported in both Yishun and Potong Pasir, according to the national water agency, PUB. The agency's swift response included issuing over a dozen flood risk alerts scattered across Singapore due to heavy rains that later drenched the island.

Just before the deluge, the National Environment Agency issued a warning at 2:15 PM, indicating that heavy rainfall was anticipated across various regions, expecting conditions to worsen from 2:40 PM to 3:40 PM. With the downpour intensifying, PUB alerted residents through Telegram about potential flooding in at least 18 locations, predominantly in eastern and central Singapore, including Paya Lebar, Serangoon, Aljunied, and MacPherson. In a precautionary measure, the public was advised to steer clear of these areas for safety.

The chaos unfolded at 3:10 PM when PUB confirmed a flash flood on Wan Tho Avenue in Potong Pasir, which was later reported to have subsided by 3:20 PM. Just twenty minutes later, another flash flood was reported on Yishun Avenue 7, which also receded quickly.

In response to these emergencies, PUB dispatched officers to both locations to provide assistance, reiterating the importance of avoiding those areas during such events.

The total rainfall recorded that afternoon reached a staggering 46.6 mm at Paya Lebar by 3 PM, marking it as the highest rainfall level, while the day's lowest temperature was noted at 23.3 deg C in Ang Mo Kio.

Looking ahead, the Meteorological Service Singapore has issued forecasts indicating that the latter half of November will experience frequent moderate to heavy thundery showers as the north-east monsoon takes hold. Rainfall will likely exceed average levels, with temperatures potentially dropping to a chilly 23 deg C on some rainy days.

For real-time updates, the public is encouraged to utilize the MyENV app and subscribe to the PUB Flood Alerts Telegram Channel, ensuring they stay informed about heavy rain alerts and flood risks.

Stay cautious and be prepared as Singapore navigates through this rainy season, as unpredictable weather can strike at any moment.
