Tragedy on Malacca Highway: Singaporean Victim Among Seven Lives Lost in Pile-Up

MELAKA - A heartbreaking accident occurred on December 23, resulting in the death of a 66-year-old Singaporean woman, Ms. Lamrah Asid Ali, who was traveling on a Malaysian tour bus. This tragic multi-vehicle collision on the North-South Expressway in Ayer Keroh claimed a total of seven lives, including hers.
According to Alor Gajah Police Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah, Ms. Lamrah was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash involved a total of six vehicles, leading to an immediate outpouring of grief from those affected.
The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently providing consular assistance to the family of Ms. Lamrah, demonstrating the strong support for Singaporeans abroad during times of crisis. The ministry has facilitated communication through the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, ensuring that the family receives the necessary support in light of this tragedy.
Among the deceased was Noorisnien Khamid, the 56-year-old bus driver. Additionally, five occupants of a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) were killed: driver Khairul Izwan Mazupi, 32; his wife Fadzlenna Ramli, 32; their two-year-old son Muhammad Umar; Fadzlenna’s 66-year-old father Ramli Ab Wahab; and passenger Fauziah Jaafar, 69. This devastating incident has left two other children of the couple hospitalized, receiving treatment for their injuries.
The collision unfolded when a lorry’s front right tyre detached and rolled into the middle lane, striking the tour bus carrying 27 passengers. Following the impact, the bus lost control, veering into the oncoming lane and colliding with a trailer and other vehicles. The aftermath left five individuals in the MPV dead at the scene, highlighting the severity of the incident.
As investigations continue under Malaysia’s Road Transport Act, authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading to this catastrophic pile-up. This tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety measures and the potential consequences of mechanical failures.
