The memory of former soccer star Kang Ji Yong has been reignited in the public eye after his recent passing, bringing forward a heart-wrenching story from the reality show "Divorce Camp".

Kang and his wife took to the show back in February to candidly share their struggles with finances. He disclosed a disturbing reality where his own father managed his bank account for nearly a decade, yet failed to hand over any of his earnings even after he started a family.

The ordeal became even more tragic as Kang explained having to take out loans for a house deposit while grappling with immense responsibility, including moving costs, childbirth, and hospital expenses—all borne by his wife. His parents, residing in a sizable apartment, claimed they had no money to return, leaving him without access to over a decade’s worth of salary.

After retiring from soccer, Kang faced a new reality, taking a job at a chemical manufacturing plant. This shift came with its share of struggles, leading to frequent fights over money with his wife.

In a profoundly candid moment, Kang expressed a harrowing wish: "My wish is to die in my sleep. I have everything ready in my car. Everything. I was so stressed because I was working hard, but it broke my will. That’s why I’m like this."

Adding a personal touch to his story, it has been revealed that Kang was the cousin of the popular singer Kwon Eunbi. Back in 2018, Kang rallied support for her during her participation in the show "Produce 48," showcasing a family bond that many were unaware of.

In a recent radio interview, Kwon reflected on her cousin's career, noting his journey through various clubs including Pohang, Gangwon, and Bucheon, although she mentioned that his last name does not share the Kwon heritage.

Tragically, Kang Ji Yong passed away on April 22, but details surrounding the cause of his death remain undisclosed. His funeral is scheduled for April 25, marking the end of a life that struggled under immense pressure despite a promising athletic career.
