A Powerful Alliance to Tackle Maternal Mental Health Crisis

In an inspiring move to confront the urgent maternal mental health crisis, Pacify and Seven Starling have forged a strategic partnership. This initiative, unveiled during Black Maternal Health Week, aims to offer innovative solutions for untreated mental health conditions—one of the leading causes of maternal mortality in the U.S.

Jennifer Sargent, CEO of Pacify, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, "Improving maternal health outcomes for our members is our top priority. We’re committed to providing personalized experiences that promote wellness for mothers." With studies highlighting the positive impacts of doulas and lactation specialists in reducing postpartum depression and anxiety, this partnership recognizes the profound challenges surrounding maternal mental health and its significant impact on overall maternal health.

Addressing Alarming Statistics

The statistics surrounding maternal mortality in the U.S. are alarming, especially among Black women who are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes. Mental health conditions lead this tragic reality, yet nearly 40% of Black mothers facing these issues lack sufficient evidence-based support.

Tina Beilinson Keshani, co-founder and CEO of Seven Starling, pointed out, "One in five expectant mothers grapples with anxiety or depression during or after their pregnancy." This partnership addresses this critical need through a range of services, including individual and group therapy, medication management, and navigational care, all delivered by maternal mental health specialists.

Bridging the Care Gap for Mothers

By merging Pacify’s doula-led model—which has shown to significantly decrease C-section rates and enhance prenatal care engagement—with Seven Starling’s extensive network of maternal mental health experts, this partnership aims to fill the gaps in existing care. Notably, Seven Starling accepts all major health insurance plans, including Medicaid, ensuring that underserved communities receive the support they desperately need. This accessibility is crucial for those living in maternal health deserts.

Through this dynamic integration, Pacify users will gain access to Seven Starling’s specialized mental health care while Seven Starling members can benefit from Pacify’s trained doulas and lactation consultants at any time during their pregnancy and postpartum journey.

A Step Towards Equitable Maternal Care

This comprehensive and innovative approach aims to create more equitable access to maternal healthcare, particularly for BIPOC communities and those in areas with limited resources. It also offers a scalable solution for health plans and public agencies focused on enhancing maternal health outcomes. By collaborating to improve access and care, Pacify and Seven Starling are driving significant change in the landscape of maternal health—one mother at a time.
