Introduction

During the widely celebrated National Day holiday from October 1-7, China’s electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers reported phenomenal sales figures, showcasing the fervor for new energy vehicles in the world’s largest auto market.

Xiaomi SU7 Takes the Lead

Leading the charge was Xiaomi's freshly launched SU7 model, which secured over 6,000 locked-in orders during the holiday period. Lei Jun, Xiaomi's founder and CEO, proudly announced these figures on Weibo, emphasizing the company’s ambitious target to produce and deliver 20,000 vehicles within October. Since its launch on March 28, the Xiaomi SU7 has consistently exceeded 10,000 monthly deliveries, and projections suggest that Xiaomi may surpass its total annual delivery goal of 100,000 units as early as next month.

Leapmotor's Impressive Performance

Leapmotor, backed by automotive giant Stellantis, reported an impressive 17,397 orders, with a remarkable 3,576 recorded on the final day of the holiday. Chairperson Zhu Jiangming highlighted this achievement on WeChat, marking a successful year for Leapmotor, which has been delivering over 30,000 vehicles for two consecutive months. The company, established in 2015, offers both battery electric and plug-in hybrid models, solidifying its presence in the competitive EV landscape.

Zeekr's New SUV Model

Not to be outdone, Zeekr—the premium EV brand affiliated with Geely—created a buzz with their new 7X SUV model. Although Zeekr did not disclose specific order numbers for the holiday, they indicated that firm orders for the 7X had already exceeded 20,000 by October 7. This competitive SUV went head-to-head with Tesla's Model Y, boasting a starting price of RMB 229,900 (around $32,540), making it a more affordable option. Zeekr's deliveries began in September and have already shattered previous sales records, with 21,333 units sold last month alone.
