On April 4, Pettit shared a mesmerizing video on the social media platform X, capturing the enchanting southern lights waltzing below the ISS as it soared over the icy waters between Australia and Antarctica. The vivid greens and swirling patterns create a captivating spectacle that few get to witness.

The following day, Pettit unveiled another stunning video featuring what he described as "green vaporous turbulence" hovering above an unnamed part of the Earth, leaving viewers awestruck by the beauty of our planet's atmosphere.

Meet NASA's Veteran Astronaut!

At 69, Don Pettit stands out as NASA's oldest active astronaut, celebrated for his captivating space photography and scientific experiments. He's not just about capturing auroras; Pettit engages the public with creative science demonstrations. Last October, he cleverly used food coloring to mimic a gas giant planet, complete with remarkable cloud patterns, and in November, he immortalized the test flight of SpaceX's Starship by snapping the impressive vapor trail it left in the sky.

Pettit's Remarkable Journey on the ISS!

Pettit arrived at the ISS in September aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft alongside cosmonauts Aleksey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner. This mission marks Pettit's fourth journey to the ISS, having spent extensive time there during missions between 2002-2003 and 2011-2012, along with a two-week trip in 2008. The trio is set to return home later this month, but not without sharing these incredible glimpses of our planet's natural wonders.
