In recent days, there has been a spectacular collision of two luxurious superyachts off the coast of Naples, Italy. The superyacht Venus, designed specifically for Steve Jobs, collided with another impressive yacht, Lady Moura, owned by Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego.

Sudden weather change blamed for the collision

The collision occurred on July 22. According to a spokesperson for Emerson Collective, an organization founded by Steve Jobs' widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, both Venus and Lady Moura were anchored at the time of the collision. The spokesperson mentioned that a sudden change in wind, which turned from a gentle breeze into a storm with speeds reaching 55 knots (approximately 100 km/h) within a few minutes, caused the accident.

Recorded moments of the collision

Ricardo Salinas Pliego shared a video on his Instagram showing the moment of the collision. In the footage, Lady Moura (105 meters in length) is seen striking Venus (78 meters in length). "I would like to know what the captain and crew were thinking, as they didn't notice a yacht the size of mine. It's good that nothing happened other than a scratch, but it's a big scratch that needs repairing," joked Pliego.

Professional handling of the situation after the collision

Both crews reacted immediately after the accident. A spokesperson for Emerson Collective confirmed that no one was aboard the Venus at the time of the collision except the crew. The captains of both yachts contacted each other directly after the incident to discuss necessary repairs. Grupo Salinas announced that both parties resolved the situation amicably and professionally within hours.

Luxurious details of the two giants

The superyacht Venus, launched in 2012, ranks 209th among the world's largest yachts according to Superyacht Times. In contrast, Lady Moura, which has been sailing since 1990, can accommodate 27 guests and has a crew of 72, and it ranks 75th on the list of the largest yachts. Venus, built for the Apple founder, was valued at $130 million.

Charm of billionaires' lives

Despite the entire situation, as Ricardo Salinas Pliego emphasized, the collision did not disrupt his vacation in any way. As can be seen, even the wealthiest are not free from unexpected problems, but they know how to handle them admirably.

The extraordinary events off the coast of Naples only confirm that the lives of superyacht owners are full of both luxury and surprises!
