Urgent Warning Issued by Huron Perth Public Health

Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) has raised concerns over multiple potential measles exposures in the community. If you were at any of the following locations during the specified times, you may be at risk!

Potential Exposure Locations

**1. Long & McQuade Music Instruments** 145 Erie Street, Unit 4, Stratford **Date & Time:** Saturday, April 5, 2025 | 9:55 a.m. - 12:35 p.m.

**2. Ross' Bike Works** 38 Wellington St, Stratford **Date & Time:** Saturday, April 5, 2025 | 10:10 a.m. - 12:10 p.m.

**3. St. Joseph's Catholic Church** 96 Huron Street, Stratford **Date & Time:** Saturday, April 5, 2025 | 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

**4. Wingham & District Hospital - Diagnostic Imaging Area** 270 Carling Terrace, Wingham **Date & Time:** Wednesday, April 9, 2025 | 9:15 a.m. - 12:05 p.m.

What to Do If You Were Exposed

Anyone who visited these locations is urged to monitor for measles symptoms for 21 days after exposure. Symptoms to watch for include: - Fever - Runny Nose - Cough - Watery Red Eyes - For some, small white spots may appear in the mouth - A characteristic red, blotchy rash that usually surfaces three to seven days after initial symptoms.

If you or a family member were born in or after 1970 and have not had two doses of the measles vaccine, please contact public health at 1-888-221-2133 ext. 3299, especially if you are at high risk (compromised immunity, pregnant, or under 12 months old).

The Danger of Measles

Measles is highly contagious and can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person has left the room. Its complications can be severe, leading to diarrhea, ear infections, and pneumonia. In rare cases, it can even cause brain inflammation or death.

If you develop any symptoms following exposure, here's how to minimize risk: - Stay home and avoid contact with others. - Limit visitors to your home. - Call ahead before visiting any healthcare facility; inform them of your exposure to measles symptoms. - If you must go out, please wear a well-fitted mask.
