Amexon Unveils Ambitious Luxury Project: Missoni Sky to Redefine Toronto's Skyline

2024-10-01

Introduction

Amexon Development Corporation has officially announced an exciting new venture that will elevate Toronto’s Garden District both architecturally and culturally: Missoni Sky. This striking development will be located at 225 Jarvis Street, the former site of the Grand Hotel, and promises to integrate high-end Italian design into an urban setting.

Architectural Design

Designed by the celebrated Core Architects, Missoni Sky is set to soar to an impressive 68 storeys, reaching a height of 188 metres. The project will consist of 795 luxurious condominium units complemented by 177 hotel units, blending residential and hospitality offerings. The architectural design features a unique transformation from a brick podium at the base—a space dedicated to a boutique hotel and upscale retail stores—to a light, glassy structure as the building ascends, becoming more slender with height.

Interior Design and Collaboration

The design ethos of Missoni, a renowned Italian fashion house founded in 1953 and famous for its colorful zigzag patterns, is set to influence the interior spaces throughout the building. The Toronto-based design studio II BY IV DESIGN is responsible for the interiors, ensuring that the signature Missoni style permeates the expansive lobbies and rooftop terraces. From patterned lobby floors to carefully curated color palettes, residents can expect high-quality finishes, bespoke textiles, and custom furnishings reflective of Missoni’s artistic legacy.

Creative Direction

Alberto Caliri, Creative Director of Missoni Home stated, "Missoni Sky represents the successful translation of our brand's style into an immersive living experience, infusing every corner of the tower with our distinctive approach." This collaborative effort promises to blend modern design with artistic expression, making residents feel as though they have entered a piece of art.

Accommodations and Amenities

Accommodations will range from chic one-bedroom units to spacious multi-bedroom layouts, each equipped with luxurious finishes, vaulted ceilings, and serene bathroom fittings. Residents will have access to a variety of upscale amenities, including art-inspired fitness areas, indoor and outdoor saltwater pools with Missoni-themed lounge chairs, zen gardens, and a juice bar—creating an environment that marries relaxation with style.

Sustainability Initiatives

Aiming for sustainability, the project will adhere to Amexon’s Green Development Standard, incorporating green roofs for rainwater management and solar panels to reduce energy dependency. Every parking space will also feature electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, marking this development as an environmentally-conscious choice in urban living.

Location and Accessibility

Nestled in the King-Jarvis Design District, Missoni Sky will be ideally located within walking distance of over 40 design showrooms and studios, the historic St. Lawrence Market, and major entertainment venues, including the Eaton Centre and Toronto Metropolitan University. With its vibrant surroundings and cutting-edge designs, this project is set to become a focal point in the city.

Zoning and Future Plans

Currently, the development has zoning approval for 49 storeys, but Amexon is preparing an application to extend this height to the planned 68 storeys. UrbanToronto will be monitoring developments closely, as this groundbreaking project promises to redefine luxury living in Toronto. Stay tuned for more updates that could soon reshape the city skyline!
