Apple Maps Elevates Web Experience with New Look Around Feature!
Apple has officially enhanced its web-based version of Apple Maps by introducing the highly anticipated Look Around feature. This update follows the beta launch of Apple Maps online in July, aiming to bring a richer mapping experience to users, as revealed by reports from 9to5Mac.
The newly integrated Look Around feature allows users to enjoy immersive street-level views of various cities. To access this tool, simply click the binoculars icon located at the bottom left corner of the map window. From there, you can click and drag to explore different first-person perspectives, providing the feel of walking down the streets of major urban locations.
Initially, the beta version of Apple Maps on the web offered standard functions such as searching for places, viewing ratings, browsing area guides, and obtaining directions. With the inclusion of Look Around, the web version is gradually bridging the gap with the highly-rated capabilities offered by the Apple Maps app available on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices. However, it is worth noting that features like personal address searches from contacts and the ability to save locations to a Library remain absent for now.
As an avid user of Apple Maps on my Mac, I can attest to the smoothness of the Look Around feature, often finding it to be more seamless than Google’s Street View option. Nonetheless, it’s frustrating that some areas, including my hometown of Baltimore, MD, are still not supported despite the sighting of an Apple Maps van in the city back in 2017. This limitation has occasionally forced me to revert to Google Maps for my navigation needs.
The full list of cities where Look Around is currently available can be found on Apple's official website. If you're ready to explore your favorite locations from the comfort of your home, give Apple Maps on the web a try – you won’t be disappointed!
Stay tuned for more exciting updates as Apple continues to enhance its mapping capabilities, making it ever easier for users to navigate the world around them!
