TORONTO — The Toronto Raptors are eagerly anticipating the return of Bruce Brown, who has yet to hit the court this season.
While fans have enjoyed his vibrant cowboy hats and boots from the sidelines, the team's newest addition has been sidelined due to a knee issue stemming from last season.
Having transferred to the Raptors from the Indiana Pacers mid-January in exchange for Pascal Siakam,
Brown struggled to find his rhythm last season, as his right knee hampered his performance. This season, though, he is optimistic about showcasing his talent, having undergone surgery that he hopes will clear the path for a comeback during the team's upcoming four-game road trip, starting in Cleveland on Sunday night.
“I don’t know if y’all noticed, but last year I didn’t look really engaged,”
Brown admitted. “That’s on social media; I didn’t want to be here, but I do want to be here. I was literally playing on one leg, and it was tough for me mentally.”
Reflecting on the past,
Brown acknowledged that he wished he had taken care of his knee injury during the offseason to be fully prepared for training camp. The urgency to perform, especially in a struggling Raptors team, led him to push through pain instead of addressing the injury earlier.
Last year’s performance certainly didn't reflect the player who was an integral part of the Denver Nuggets' championship run in 2023.
Known for his versatility, Brown can play various positions despite being only six-foot-four. With an impressive ability to cut through defenses and maintain a high basketball IQ, he is expected to rejoin the lineup as a pivotal asset for the Raptors.
“I’m ready to hoop. I can’t wait!”
Brown exclaimed, full of excitement as he prepares to step back on the hardwood.
Beyond basketball,
Brown expressed gratitude to his teammates and coaches for their support during his recovery. He gifted them cowboy boots and hats as a gesture of appreciation for helping him navigate a tough chapter in his career.
With Brown back on the court,
the Raptors are hopeful that his skills will blend seamlessly into the team’s dynamics. Head Coach Darko Rajakovic has recognized Brown’s potential, noting, “Bruce was one of the best cutters in the league. We believe there’s a lot he can contribute when he’s fully healthy.”
As the Raptors gear up for a fresh start this season,
all eyes will be on Bruce Brown, eager to see him back in action and making an impact that fans have been waiting for!
