Calling all aspiring thespians in 100 Mile House!
The stage is set for a fresh comedic adventure this April, as the community gears up for a production of *Four Old Broads*. Directed by the enthusiastic first-time director Patrick Aubert, this comedic mystery is sure to bring both laughs and intrigue.
Aubert is hosting auditions at St. Timothy's Anglican Church on December 12 and 14, and he encourages everyone in the community—especially those with no prior acting experience—to come out and showcase their talent. "I’m incredibly eager to work with newcomers to the stage. The 100 Mile Performing Arts Society thrives on community involvement, and this is a perfect chance for anyone looking to dive into the world of theatre," he shared.
With an impressive 40 years of experience in theatre, Aubert is well-versed in both acting and stage management. He previously dazzled audiences in the production *Murders in the Heir* and felt that now was the right moment to take the plunge into directing. “When I moved to 100 Mile House, it hit me—there aren’t many people stepping up to direct, so it felt like a prime opportunity.”
After being captivated by the script for *Four Old Broads* by Leslie Kimbell months ago, Aubert knew instantly it was the right choice. This lively play illuminates the lives of four elderly women, each bursting with unique personalities as they navigate the chaos of life in a retirement home. The story follows Beatrice Shelton, a retired burlesque queen, as she attempts to orchestrate an unforgettable vacation with her steadfast best friend, Eaddy Mae Clayton. But first, they must outsmart the devious nurse Pat Jones and uncover the mystery of the vanishing residents, all while contending with the affections of a retired Elvis impersonator, Sam Smith.
“The characters are powerful, and they truly leave a mark on the audience. I can’t wait to see these roles come to life,” Aubert expressed with enthusiasm.
Although the play primarily features older characters, Aubert is open to casting younger actors in these roles, emphasizing that great performances can come from a variety of ages. "This is a chance for women who may not have had the opportunity to shine in theatre before," he added.
The production requires seven actors aged 18 and over, and while it’s suitable for most audiences, it isn’t necessarily aimed at families. Rather, it promises mature humor and engaging storytelling.
Auditions will occur on Thursday, December 12 from 6 PM to 8 PM, and Saturday, December 14 from 10 AM to noon, with additional callbacks potentially taking place that Saturday afternoon from 2 PM to 4 PM. Interested actors should prepare a short monologue of one to two minutes and be ready to read from the script.
Mark your calendars!
