Lucas (Luc) Fornoville, P.Eng., Ar., of Rockwood, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, in Guelph, Ontario, surrounded by his loving wife, Marleen, and children, Thomas and Martine.
Early Life and Education
Born on October 15, 1948, in Wilrijk, Belgium, Luc was the youngest of three boys and was known for his warmth, humor, and caring spirit. An avid sports enthusiast, he excelled in tennis and soccer during his youth. His passion for the outdoors led him to become a leader in various youth organizations, fostering a love for cycling through Europe and hiking in nature.
Career
Luc pursued his education in civil engineering and architecture at the University of Ghent, where he met his future wife. They married in 1973 and enjoyed over 51 beautiful years together, creating a loving home for their two children. In 1983, seeking better opportunities for his family, Luc made the brave decision to relocate from Belgium to Canada.
Legacy and Involvement
Throughout his life, Luc shared his deep love of music and sports with his children. He was actively involved in their pursuits, from taking Thomas to hockey tournaments across southern Ontario to attending Martine's music recitals. Family trips were cherished experiences, and Luc always looked forward to spending quality time with his grandson, Ben, sharing his passion for building with LEGO.
Professional Achievements
A dedicated professional, Luc built an impressive career as a Professional Engineer and Architect throughout Belgium, British Columbia, and Ontario. His expertise in the brick manufacturing industry led him to significant roles, including Executive Director for the Canadian Masonry Institute and Plant and Regional Operations Manager at Hanson Brick. He also served as Architectural and Engineering Specialist at Atlas Block Co. Ltd., and capped off his career as Product Manager for Patene Building Supplies before retiring in 2018.
Family and Gratitude
Luc is survived by his devoted wife Marleen, his cherished children Martine and Thomas (and his partner Samantha), his beloved grandson Benjamin Lucas, and his brother Raymond (and his partner Maria). He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Renée. The family expresses their deep gratitude to the staff at The Elliott Community LTC Home in Guelph for their excellent care, especially to Dr. Ellen Lee, the family physician, and Hospice Wellington for their unwavering support during tough times.
