Exciting Announcement for the Holidays

In a festive announcement just in time for the holiday season, the Canadian federal government has declared that Santa Claus's sleigh is officially cleared for travel in Canadian airspace. This exciting news comes from Minister of Transport and Internal Trade, Anita Anand, who met with Santa to discuss his upcoming flight plans.

Safety Protocols in Place

During a press briefing on Monday, Minister Anand revealed that she collaborated closely with her "elves" to ensure all necessary protocols were in place for a smooth journey. "Transport Canada is committed to providing safe travel across the country during this joyful season, and we wish all Canadians a safe and happy holiday," said Anand.

Tracking Santa's Journey

As excitement builds, children across Canada—and globally—will have the opportunity to track Santa's sleigh on December 24 through the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) website. This year marks the 69th anniversary of NORAD’s playful tradition of tracking Santa, which has become an eagerly awaited event for families everywhere.

A Global Tradition

Did you know that each year over 100,000 children call NORAD to ask about Santa's whereabouts? Millions more join in the fun online, following Santa's journey in nine different languages, including English, Spanish, and even Japanese! This heartwarming tradition originated during the Cold War era, when a misdialed number led a child to contact the Continental Air Defense Command, sparking a festive response that has continued ever since.

Live Updates for Kids

In addition to online tracking, kids can get live updates by calling 1-877-HI-NORAD, with operators available from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. ET to share Santa's latest location as he prepares for his global night of gift-giving.

Mark Your Calendars!

So, mark your calendars and get ready for the magical night of December 24th! Santa’s sleigh is set, and he’s ready to spread joy and cheer across the skies—Canada is more than ready for the big guy in red!
