Following a stunning 4-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils, Lorentz, who joined the team on a professional tryout (PTO), scored a goal that brought him even closer to his fan base. His sister, Steph, delighted fans by sharing a nostalgic photo from one of his yearbooks, rekindling the dreams that started it all.

The Maple Leafs also revealed a charming childhood image of Lorentz, decked out in Leafs pajamas, with a poster of franchise great Mats Sundin in the background. This photo echoed a similar cute moment from John Tavares’s past that went viral, when he was seen peacefully sleeping under Leafs covers.

Now 28, Lorentz reflected on his timely success, sharing a light moment with his father, Mark, who texted him after the game asking how he would top his goal in the upcoming home opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins. With his trademark smile, Lorentz quipped, “I don’t know man, we’ll see.”

After a successful stint with the Florida Panthers, where he contributed to a Stanley Cup victory, Lorentz’s path to the Leafs has been anything but ordinary. He also had spells with the San Jose Sharks and the Carolina Hurricanes, not to mention several seasons in the minors following a stellar junior career with the Peterborough Petes.
