An upgraded model with a mid-mount 750-Watt motor can be yours for $3,099. My review model featured the 1,000-Watt motor, donned in a striking tangerine and grey color scheme.

Weighing in at 75 pounds, the Hero still feels surprisingly nimble thanks to its carbon-fiber construction. The generous 864 Watt-hour battery is removable, making charging a breeze. Despite its sturdy frame and impressive specs, the e-bike's step-through design ensures accessibility for riders of varying heights, from my 5’4” wife to my own 6’1” stature.

Unmatched Comfort and Performance

With full front and rear suspension, padded with preload adjustability, the Hero is built for comfort. It comes equipped with bright dual-LED headlights for nighttime visibility, single-piston hydraulic disc brakes for solid stopping power, and a colorful display conveniently located atop the handlebar.

Notably, the Hero is classified as a Class 3 e-bike, boasting a top pedal-assist speed of 28 mph. With a twist of the throttle, it can reach 35 mph, but be warned: that speed may not be sustainable for long stretches. While Heybike boasts an impressive range of 60 miles per charge, going full throttle may limit that distance.

While initially marketed as a mountain bike, I couldn’t resist putting the Hero to the test on local mountain trails. The 1,000-Watt motor tackled inclines with ease, even surging to 1,800 Watts for steep climbs. However, the fat tires, while capable of rolling over obstacles, did introduce some steering imprecision.

On descents, the entry-level front suspension struggled under faster riding conditions, reminding me to keep my pace reasonable. The rear shock, however, performed admirably, and while the RSX disc brakes showed signs of fade on steep trails, the Hero proved it could handle a variety of terrains—albeit best suited for casual off-roading.

Transitioning to paved roads, the Hero truly shines. The low-pressure tires coupled with the full suspension made for an incredibly smooth ride. Clocking speeds of up to 40 mph on steep declines, I appreciated how stable it felt. The carbon-fiber frame exhibited no noticeable flex, promising durability during fast-paced rides.

Safety and Practicality Considerations

Equipped with robust dual-LED headlights, the Hero is ready for nighttime adventures, although the lack of a tail light is a noticeable omission for prudent riders. Opting for an aftermarket addition would enhance safety during dark commutes.
