In a significant safety alert, Stanley has announced a recall of several models of their popular travel mugs, advising customers to "immediately stop using" the affected products. The recall is due to a troubling design flaw that compromises the integrity of the mugs' lids.
The core issue lies with the threading on certain models, which can shrink under heat and torque. This defect poses a dangerous risk, as it could lead to the lids "unexpectedly detaching" during use, resulting in potential burns to users. As of December 12, 2024, there have been multiple reports of incidents. In Canada, one burn injury has been linked to the issue, while the United States has seen 16 reported incidents, two of which involved burn injuries.
Customers who own one of the recalled mugs are encouraged to reach out to Stanley for a replacement lid. They can do so by calling 1-866-792-5445 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday. Alternatively, users can also request a new lid conveniently online.
The affected products include: - Quadvac Trigger Action Mug (16- and 20-ounce versions) - Switchback Travel Mug (12- and 16-ounce versions) - Trigger-Action Travel Mug (12-, 16-, and 20-ounce versions) - Trigger-Action Travel Mug 2 Pack (16- and 20-ounce versions)
