Winter Weather Alert for Toronto and Surrounding Areas
A winter weather travel advisory has been issued for Toronto and surrounding parts of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), including eastern Ontario, as snow is set to blanket the region.
Environment Canada predicts that Toronto and Mississauga could see accumulations of up to 5 centimeters of snow beginning Saturday afternoon and lasting throughout the evening. Meteorologist Carl Lam from 680NewsRadio warned, 'Cities like Toronto, Richmond Hill, Markham, Oshawa, Pickering, Ajax, Uxbridge, and Peterborough should prepare for steady snowfall accompanied by gusty winds, which could lead to hazardous travel conditions due to reduced visibility.'
While snow totals are expected to peak at around 5 centimeters near the lakeshore, more significant accumulation is projected for areas to the northeast, such as the Kawarthas and Peterborough, where totals might reach between 5 to 10 centimeters.
The snowy weather is expected to move southeast throughout the afternoon, tapering off early this evening. However, local drivers should remain cautious as road conditions may become challenging.
In a related note, the Niagara Falls region is also under a Special Weather Statement, with winds gusting up to 80 km/h expected by this evening and continuing through Sunday morning. These high winds could lead to further travel disruptions and hazardous conditions.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts, plan ahead, and drive safely if traveling in affected areas. Don't let the winter weather catch you by surprise—prepare now!
